Try these tips (at little or no expense) to put a home in prime showing shape.

  • Clear closets/clutter—give away/pack up toys, linens, small kitchen appliances and store offsite.
  • Focus on the most visible areas.
  • De-personalize: remove photos, mementos, and dated items. Put away collections - plates, etc.
  • Remove valuables, collectibles, breakables.
  • Trim trees, prune shrubs, turn on sprinklers 30 min before an open house so the lawn sparkles.
  • Set dining table with attractive linens, dishes, stemware.
  • Arrange fresh flowers and candles through the home.
  • Light a fire (winter) or candles (summer) in the fireplace.
